You did it yourself, with ChatGPT, Claude or an AI website builder. It took an afternoon, it looks professional and it cost almost nothing. Friends say it looks great.
But the phone isn't ringing more than before. The contact form has been quiet. You're not sure anyone besides you has visited.
A website doesn't put money in your pocket by existing. It has to be found, it has to convince, and you have to know it's working. Here's a 30-minute checkup to find out where yours stands.
Part 1: Can customers find it? (10 minutes)
Is it indexed? Search site:yourdomain.com on Google. If nothing shows up, Google doesn't know your site exists. Add it to Google Search Console and submit your sitemap.
Does it show up for what you sell? Search for your main service and city in a private browser window: "pressure washing Cape Coral". Is your website on the first page? Is your Google Business Profile in the map results?
Is your Business Profile linked to the site? Your Google Business Profile should link to your website, and your website should show the same name, phone and address. If you're not on the map at all, start with why your business isn't showing up on Google Maps.
Do your pages have proper titles? Look at your site in Google's results. If the title says "Home" or something generic, Google doesn't know what the page is about. Each main page needs a title like "Pressure Washing in Cape Coral | Your Business Name".
Part 2: Does it convince visitors to contact you? (10 minutes)
Open your site on your phone, as if you were a customer who's never heard of you.
Can you tell what the business does and where in five seconds? "Quality solutions for your needs" says nothing. "Pressure washing for homes and condos in Cape Coral and Fort Myers" says everything.
Is the text about your business or about any business? AI-written text often sounds polished but empty. Replace it with your specifics: services, prices or starting prices if you share them, service areas, how the process works, how long it takes.
Is there proof? Real photos of your work and team, reviews, years in business, licenses, certifications. Stock images and invented testimonials hurt trust. Remove any testimonial that isn't from a real customer.
Is contacting you easy?
- Tap the phone number. Does it start a call?
- Fill out your own contact form. Did the message arrive? In your inbox or spam? How long did it take?
- Is there a clear button on every page ("Call now", "Get a quote", "Book a visit")?
Broken or silent forms are one of the most common problems with AI-built sites. The form looks right, but the messages go nowhere.
Part 3: Can you tell if it's working? (10 minutes)
Is analytics installed? You need a way to see visits and where they come from, such as Google Analytics.
Are calls and forms counted? Track phone taps and form submissions as events, so you see actions, not just visits.
Do you ask new customers how they found you? It's the simplest tracking there is. Add the question to your intake or booking form.
If you can't answer "how many customers did the website bring last month?", you can't improve it.
Your scorecard
Give yourself one point for each "yes":
- Indexed by Google
- Appears for your main service and city, or at least your business name
- Business Profile linked and consistent
- Clear headline: what you do and where
- Specific text, real photos and real proof
- Tappable phone number
- Contact form tested and delivering
- Clear call to action on every page
- Analytics installed with calls and forms tracked
- New customers asked how they found you
8 to 10: your site is in good shape; focus on content and reviews. 5 to 7: fix the missing pieces this month; they're probably costing you customers. 0 to 4: the site looks finished but isn't working yet. Start with forms and indexing, then the message.
What to fix first
- Anything that loses a ready customer: broken forms, non-tappable phone numbers, missing contact buttons.
- Anything that keeps you invisible: indexing, page titles, Business Profile link.
- Anything that fails to convince: generic text, no proof, stock photos.
- Tracking, so you can see the effect of every change.

What we'd do first
We'd test the form and phone links, connect Search Console and analytics, then rewrite the home page and main service pages with your real details so they speak to the customers you want. Often the existing site can be fixed rather than rebuilt. If you'd like a second pair of eyes, see our web design and landing pages service.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if Google has indexed my website?
Search for site:yourdomain.com on Google. If nothing appears, Google hasn't indexed it. For a detailed view, add your site to Google Search Console, submit your sitemap and check the Pages report.
My website gets visits but no calls. What's wrong?
Usually the message or the next step. Visitors can't quickly tell what you do and where, they don't see proof that you're good, or contacting you is hard on a phone. Make the phone number tappable, add a short form, and put reviews and real photos near the top.
Should I rebuild my AI-built website from scratch?
Not necessarily. Many problems can be fixed: connecting Google tools, rewriting key pages, fixing forms and adding tracking. Rebuild only if the structure makes those fixes harder than starting over.
How long before a fixed website starts bringing customers?
Fixes to forms, calls to action and Business Profile links can help within days. Improvements in Google rankings usually take weeks to months, depending on your competition and how much you improve the content.
